Season comes to an end at Districts

The girls golf season came to an end today as sophomore Jaime O'Neill and senior Libby Hill played well but came up short in their efforts to qualify for sectionals. Playing at Crown Pointe GC in Farmington MO, the MSHSAA Class 2 District 1 turned out to be the most competitive district in the state by far. Needing to finish in the top 15 of the individual scores not on the top two district squads, Jaime came nine places from qualifying. The scores were greatly improved upon from last year.

Banquet- I've received many forms for the banquet next Thursday. If you haven't turned yours in yet, see me tomorrow at school.

Varsity get their first win of the season

The varsity girls golf team hosted Lafayette and Mehlville on Wednesday at Pomme Creek GC. The Warriors finished in the middle as they dropped their match to the Lancers but defeated the Panthers. Final score was Lafayette 169- Fox 220- Mehlville 263.  The Fox score of 220 bested their previous team score by 22 strokes. History was close to being on Wednesday as sophomore Jill Donart almost shot lower than Jaime O'Neill. They tied for medalist honors in the Mehlville match as they both carded a 53. Since Jaime has joined the team last year as a freshman, no one at Fox has shot lower than her in a nine hole match. We'll see if it happens this year. I'll have forms for everyone and you can place your order with me later in the week. Listen to the afternoon announcements, check the blog, or follow me @foxgolfcoach for info about our plans.

Girl Golfers-Important

We will not be meeting at the driving range tomorrow as was previously discussed last week.  The next time we will meet is on the first day of the season- Monday, August 4th at 8am in the commons at Fox High School. We will meet at FHS the first day until 10am. You need to bring a completed Pre-Participation Physical Form with you on that first day. This is REQUIRED. You cannot stay for the meeting or participate until one is turned in to me or the athletic office. I prefer you turn it in to me. The form is the very first form on the left side of this webpage, under Athletic Forms. Print it out, have your doctor's office fill out the first part, and you and your parents fill out the second part. Be sure everything is signed and insurance information is completed.
We will meet at Fox the rest of the first week at 8am, then take a bus to The First Tee driving range on Tuesday and Friday. On those days we will be returning to school around 10am and practice will be over. On Wednesday and Thursday we will leave Fox at 8am and go to Pomme Creek GC. State Day 2

Brendan Lindsay and Tyler Ward finished out the golf season yesterday in a valiant fashion. Playing an extremely difficult course, and under windy/blustery conditions, the two state qualifiers shot rounds of 90 and 96 respectively.  Brendan finish 65th and Tyler 75th out of 88 golfers.  Columbia Rock Bridge took the team title while a golfer from Washington High School shot 71-74 to win the individual title by 6 strokes.  Pictured below is Brendan on the 100 yard long 18th green at Dalhousie.  He's finishing his last hole of high school golf.  Good luck to Brendan as he continues his competitive golfing career at William Woods University next year.  Also pictured is Tyler Ward, who is already making plans for a return trip to state next year.

Best day in Fox golf history

For the first time in Fox golf history, two golfers have qualified for the state tournament. In the 30 years of the Fox golf program, five golfers total have qualified for the state tournament, and under easier parameters. But since the addition of the sectional round in the qualification process, the Class 4 Sectional 1 tournament has consistently put up the lowest scores in the state. It didn't change today. In the other sectionals, golfers could shoot +8 or +9 to make it to state, but at Missouri Bluffs one needed to shoot a 76(+5) to get to state. Junior Tyler Ward shot a school record 74 and senior Brendan Lindsay carded his best score of 76 to make the cut. Fox is the only school from District 1 to take multiple golfers to Cape Girardeau for the state tournament. Tyler and Brendan will compete next Monday and Tuesday at Dalhousie GC for all-state honors. Juniors Adam Basler came in with an 80 and Jacob Weis had a 94 to round out the team score. A 324 is a good score for most tournaments, but will be improved upon next year as Fox becomes even more competitive on the team sectional level. Complete sectional results can be found at the following link- https://www.mshsaa.org/Activities/SectionalResults.aspx?alg=23&class=4&sectional=1
Pictured below are the state qualifiers and team scorecard.

The four Fox golfers mentioned above all qualified for the next round as the 15th place score was 85. Fox will now be competing on a team level, and individually, next Monday at Missouri Bluffs. Brendan, Jacob, and Tyler also made the all-district team.
