Girls Golf Banquet

The first Girls Golf banquet was a success last Thursday, as coaches, golfers, and family members gathered to recognize the accomplishments of our young golfers.  Many members were recognized for their dedication, spirit, low scores, and consistent improvement.  Pictured below are the JV Golfer of the Year, Jill Donart(R), and Varsity Golfer of the Year, Jaime O'Neill(L).

Golf Banquet- Thursday October 17th

Don't forget- the golf banquet is Thursday, October 17th. It starts at 6pm in the staff cafeteria.  Stop by my room to turn in your banquet info.  Please do so by this Friday.  Everyone should be there.  Letters and awards will be handed out.

District Tournament

The MSHSAA Class 2 District 1 golf tournament took place yesterday, and the Fox golfers competed well.  Freshman Jaime O'Neill continued her steady improvement by shooting 117.  This was Jaime's third 18 hole tournament at Aberdeen this season and she improved on her previous score each time (131-121-117).  Look for Jaime to be Fox's first sectional qualifier next year.  Senior Kelsey Dawidowski capped off her Fox golfing career with a 124.  Kelsey's attitude and sense of humor will be missed by her coaches and teammates, and we wish her the best of luck with her future endeavors.  Freshman Jill Donart also competed and gained valuable experience as she will look to build upon her successful first year.

District golf info

A few things about the district golf tournament tomorrow-  there is a $5 charge to fans, parents, spectators etc who want to watch the tournament;  Monday's high temp is going to be around 68*, dress warmer than you think you need to, bring a stocking cap, hoodie, wear pants, wear an extra pair of socks, dress in layers- undershirt, long sleeve shirt, golf shirt, then hoodie or sweater; you can always take layers off if you're too warm and throw it in the van or put it on the table after nine holes.  You need some sort of hat!  Not just a visor.  It will be cold and windy in the morning.  Be over prepared.  I'll have breakfast for you in the morning, lunch will be provided at the course.  Meet in my classroom in the morning and let's make all the hard work and practice pay off by playing your best tomorrow.

Oakville 199 Fox 248

The Warriors had a rough day at Quail Creek GC against Oakville. The busy golf season seemed to catch up with the girls yesterday as they shot their highest total of the year.  Team pics and a short team meeting are on the schedule for today so the girls can regain their focus for the stretch run.  We'll look to make our summer golf and hours spent practicing pay off during these last three weeks of the golf season.

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Lafayette 167 Fox 237

The Warriors traveled all the way to the Links at Dardenne and battled the Lancers under rainy conditions.  Lafayette came in third in state last year, and continued their strong play.  Fox worked hard and shot some good scores.  Freshman Jaime O'Neill led the Warriors with a 54 and senior Kelsey Dawidowski came in with a 59.  Fox is in action closer to home tomorrow as they take on Oakville at Quail Creek

Lindbergh 172 Fox 244

The girl golfers faced another tough opponent when the Lindbergh Flyers came to Pomme Creek today.  The Warriors dropped the match, but junior Jenn Amstutz posted her low score of the season with a 55.  Freshman Jaime O'Neill continued her strong start by also shooting a 55, and she also had the first birdie of season.  Jaime hit a 7 iron to within five feet on the 2nd hole at Pomme, then proceeded to sink the putt.  The JV squad lost to Lindbergh by just three strokes, as Libby Hill and Jill Donart both shot 46 to miss out on medalist honors by one stroke.

Wednesday, September 4, 2013

Marquette 159 Fox 237

The Warriors played their first stroke play match today versus Marquette.  The Mustangs have a strong team from top to bottom and they played well at Pomme.  Fox competed and posted scores that will be improved upon throughout the season.  Freshman Jamie O'Neill led the way for the Warriors again as she shot a 55.  Senior Kelsey Dawidowski started her season with a 58.  The team is back in action tomorrow against Lindbergh.

Seckman Match play Cup

The girls golf program had their first match of the season this afternoon as they took on rival Seckman. In what was the first golf competition for many of our golfers, they played well.  Going up against a Seckman team that conference championship dreams proved to be a tough test for our young squad. The highlight of the day for the Warriors was the play of freshman Jamie O'Neill(pictured below).  She tied her match versus a past sectional qualifier for the Jaguars, making the final score 8 1/2- 1/2.  She also shot the low stroke score of 54.  Jenn Amstutz shot a 55 and Sarah Lamprecht had a 59.  The Warriors are back in action Wednesday versus Marquette and Thursday versus Lindbergh, both at Pomme.

Webster Groves Invitational

The Fox Girls Golf team kicked off their season this warm morning by playing in the Webster Groves Invitational at Sunset Hills GC.  In the two person scramble format, junior Jen Amstutz and freshman Jamie O'Neill paired up to post a very respectable score of 99.  Going into the competition, the team discussed goals and objectives, and shooting under100 can be marked as accomplished by Jen and Jamie.  Pictured below you can see the couple lining up a long putt on hole 16.  Amstutz proceeded to sink the 20 foot putt, the team's longest of the day.  Juniors Ashley Biundo and Sarah Lamprecht came in with a 113, a good score for the first competition of the season and under sweltering conditions.  Next up for the Warriors is their rivalry match play competition versus Seckman on Tuesday.

Sectional results

The 2013 varsity season came to an end today, even as Brendan Lindsay shot the best tournament round of the year for the Warriors as he came in with a +12 (82) at Crown Pointe GC in Farmington MO. The MSHSAA Class 4 Sectional 1 proved to be a meat grinder as the qualifying individual score for advancement to the state tournament next week ended up at 77, the lowest it's ever been at sectionals. Tyler Ward gained some valuable postseason experience as he carded a 95.
Be sure to join us this Thursday for the golf banquet as we celebrate the accomplishments of these two golfers and the rest of the Fox Warrior golf program.
Pictured below are some images from today's sectional tournament.

District results

Junior Brendan Lindsay and sophomore Tyler Ward qualified for sectionals! Both shot an 85 at Aberdeen to make the cut by two strokes. Adam Basler missed by one stroke, and Christian Willis and Jacob Weis carded an 89 to miss by two strokes. In other words, the Fox squad missed sending their entire team to sectionals by just a few strokes. The team scored a 347 to come in 7th place. Both results are the best Fox has done in many years. The team dropped an 89 in determining their score, which will have to be researched to find out the last time we dropped a score in the 80's. Brendan and Tyler will now start preparing for sectionals at Crown Pointe on Monday. Pictured below are the sectional qualifiers and our team score sheet.

Golf banquet Thursday May 9th

Golfers need to stop by Coach Boyd or Coach Schwalbe's room to get information about the golf banquet. Responses are needed by this Friday. Payment can be made at the banquet, but we need a head count by the end of this week. Thanks.

Fox missed out on third place by just two strokes, and beat district rival Seckman by 20 strokes. Another great job by the future of the golf program.

Mehlville Tournament at Crown Pointe

The lineup for the Mehlville Tournament in Farmington this Saturday is as follows...
Brendan Lindsay
Christian Willis
Adam Basler
Jacob Weis
Tyler Ward
The Farmington Five will have an optional driving range practice tomorrow (Friday) right after school.  If you want to ride with me in the school van to the range let me know during the school day.  I will meet whoever needs a ride at the golf closet right after school, and I will drop you back off at school around 4pm.  Since this is an optional practice you may drive yourself to the range.  I will be at the range around 240pm.
For Saturday, the Farmington Five need to be at school and in the van at 6am.  Coaches meeting is at 715am and you will tee off at 8am.  You will get a range token when we get there, and lunch is provided.  We usually get back from this tournament around 4-5pm.  Notice the forecast for Saturday- high of around 55.  Wear more layers than you need.  You can always take a layer off if you get too warm.  Bring a stocking cap.  It's usually very windy at this course.  Also, an extra pair, or two, of socks may be a good idea because it's probably still going to be wet.  Pics and results will be posted Saturday night.

4th Annual Fox JV Tournament cancelled

We had to cancel the JV tournament this morning due to the severe weather conditions.  This will change some things with our banquet on Thursday, May 9th.  In the past, the funds from the JV tournament has helped cover some of the trophies, medals, and awards we hand out at the banquet, as well as defray some of the food costs.  Golfers will be getting information about the golf banquet next week.  The cost will be slightly more than in years past so that we may continue our traditions.  Thanks in advance for understanding.

3rd place Pattonville Open

A split-squad from Fox, led by Coach Schwalbe, finished third at the Pattonville Open today at Tapawingo National Golf Club.  Brendan Lindsay shot an 85 individually for the Warriors.  The two scramble teams did great as Adam Basler and Cameron Jarvis fired a 74 and the team of Matt Turner and Tyler Ward carded an 81.  The three scores put them just behind Washington and Eureka, and in front of fourth place Lafayette.  Pictured below, from left to right, is Cameron Jarvis, Adam Basler, Brendan Lindsay, Tyler Ward, and Matt Turner.  Great job guys!

JV vs Ladue

Coach Schwalbe and the JV squad continued their winning ways by notching their third win in a row.  Under less than ideal conditions, the Warriors topped Ladue 286-306.  Matt Turner was the medalist with a 45 and will be joining the varsity squad for their tri-match next Tuesday.  Alec Stirnemann followed up his medalist performance yesterday with a 46 against the Rams.  Chandler Sykes and Jordan Bratton both contributed with a 47.  Coach Schwalbe takes a split squad to the Pattonville tournament on Wednesday, and we're all keeping our fingers crossed that we are able to get the 4th Annual Fox JV Tournament played on Thursday.  Pictured below are some of the spectators of the Fox-Ladue JV match.

Rounding out the match scores were Jordan Bratton with a 46 and Cameron Jarvis with a 49. The winning score was Fox 220 Mehlville 238 Northwest 240. Varsity vs Northwest

Christian Willis put his name in the Fox record book this afternoon when he became one of three Fox golfers since 2000 to shoot under par in a match. It has only happened a few times in the 29 year history of Fox golf. Christian had one bogey and two birdies at House Springs GC and came in -1(one under). He was the medalist, and Brendan Lindsay shot 41 and Tyler Ward carded 43. The Warriors shot a season low 259 and came up short as the Lions had 248. Pictured below is Christian Willis after having turned in his scorecard.

The Warriors continued their long week by traveling back to The Landings at Spirit to take on the Marquette Mustangs, and Fox stepped up with a good performance under tough conditions.
